PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: At least you ask yourself your own questions about, am I wringing as much bias out of myself as I can? Am I judging people as much as I can based on, not the color of their skin, but the content of their character?

…Photographer Jane Critchlow says those remarks prompted her to realize that she was regularly looking at young, African-American men with fear. So she took her camera and approached black men in her neighborhood and asked to take a photo with them. She’s now compiled those pictures in her book “Some of My Best Friends: A White Woman’s Journey into Racial Profiling.”

Michel Martin, host of NPR’s Tell Me More, interviewed Jane Critchlow of Cleveland Heights about her project, Some of My Best Friends: A White Woman’s Journey into Racial Profiling.
