Christina Vassallo Named New SPACES Director

Cleveland, Ohio – After a national search, five months and 60 candidates, SPACES Gallery has chosen a new executive director.

Christina Vassallo, executive director of the Flux Factory nonprofit arts organization in New York City, will take over leadership of the nonprofit Cleveland gallery dedicated to experimental work by emerging artists on Feb. 3. She replaces Chris Lynn, who resigned in June.

“One of the many reasons we chose Christina is her knowledge and excitement and ideas about emerging contemporary art,” says Spaces board President John Farina.

Christina Vassallo has been involved with Flux Factory since 2010 as Adjunct Curator, and was appointed Executive Director in May 2011. In addition to serving as lead fundraiser and defining the organization’s artistic vision, she has redesigned Flux’s educational programming by co-developing a number of initiatives, including Flux Death Match, The Future of Your Neighborhood: Who Decides?, and Fake It Til You Make It. She has also co-curated major Flux Factory exhibitions, including The Typhoon Continues & So Do You, Congress of Collectives, and Public Trust.
