Dale Yudelman
Knockin’ on Cleveland’s Door
November 7 – 23, 2014
Opening Reception: November 7 , 6-9 pm
Waterloo Arts presents the work of South African photographer Dale Yudelman, a Cleveland Foundation Creative Fusion Artist-in-Residence and winner of the Ernest Cole Award – South Africa’s most prestigious prize for social documentary photography. Yudelman’s career spans two eras of South African history and across several continents.   Knockin’ on Cleveland’s Door includes impressions gleaned during Yudelman’s explorations of Cleveland as well as prints from his acclaimed series Life under Democracy, a testament of life in South Africa after two decades of democracy. Also in the exhibit are photographs by students Yudelman worked with during his Cleveland residency.
On Life Under Democracy
“Screaming like motherless newborns, his images smack the life into what we so easily perceive as ordinary… Yudelman delivers a personal, sometimes scathing, and often humorous account of our unruly and evolving democracy.” -Simone Tredoux
