Andrew Borowiec’s Cleveland Photographs at CMA

July 15, 2010

Andrew Borowiec has earned wide attention for his sober, clear-eyed and occasionally mournful black-and-white photographs of the Cleveland Flats. Cleveland Museum of Art is examining 40 of these images in an exhibition on view throughout summer and early fall. Drawn from 87 photographs donated by collectors Mark Schwartz and Bettina Katz, the Borowiec show includes images of decaying steel mills, warehouses and residences. Clevelanders familiar with the places Borowiec photographed will note the ways in which he is able to bring fresh perceptions to the task. Through Sunday, Oct. 17. 11150 East Blvd., Cleveland. Free. Go to clevelandart.org or call 216-421-7340.
