The Cleveland Print Room is open to photographers and artists of all stripes. The photography cooperative, opened and run by Shari Wilkins, features classes for budding photogs and wall space for inspiring exhibitions. Wilkins’ goal is to get the place buzzing alongside the rest of Cleveland’s burgeoning arts scene. We recently walked around the place — darkroom and all — and talked about the resurging art of analog photography.
This place looks really great. How did all of this get started?
SW: We opened our doors last January, but I started working on it two years ago…

A burgeoning cultural node in Ohio City on Cleveland’s near West Side could soon get a serious boost if the nonprofit art gallery Spaces can raise enough cash to move into the neighborhood.
After months of quiet negotiations, Spaces is close to signing a lease with developer Michael Chesler, owner of the 14,000-square-foot brick industrial building at the southeast corner of West 29th Street and Detroit Avenue.
Moving into the area, dubbed Hingetown by local developers Graham Veysey and Marika Shioiri-Clark, would bring Spaces cheek by jowl with the new Transformer Station gallery, and with Veysey and Shioiri Clark’s Ohio City Firehouse and Striebinger Building.
Read more about the potential move and view a slideshow at cleveland.com.

Did you catch the 4″x5″ bug this semester, but not sure how to continue your large format work after school? Never fear. Wanderlust has developed an affordable – and charming – solution: The Travelwide System. You can preorder your camera now for just $149 + shipping. It comes with a pinhole, and you’d have to purchase a 90mm lens and film holders. But… dang… this is pretty cool. Even the website is cool. Visit wanderlustcameras.com. Cool.

Chin-pao Chen lecturing to CSU photo students.
We were fortunate to have Visiting Artist Chen-pao Chen visit CSU photo this week.
Chen talking about the student exhibitions currently on view at The Galleries at CSU.

Here we all are. As an added bonus, friend of CSU photo Donald Black Jr. also came along and provided feedback on student work as well. That’s him just to the right of Chin. Donald visited earlier this semester.
