Renowned Photojournalist Ron Haviv Lecture

Award-winning photojournalist Ron Haviv will speak at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) in The Black Box Theatre of The Tommy LiPuma Center for Creative Arts located on the Metro Campus, 2809 Woodland Ave., Cleveland. The event is free and open to the public.

Haviv has produced images of conflict and humanitarian crises that have made headlines around the world since the end of the Cold War. His work is published by magazines such as New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, People, Vanity Fair and Time. Numerous museums and galleries have featured his work, including the Louvre, United Nations, and the Council on Foreign Relations.

Additionally, Haviv has published critically acclaimed collections of his photography with the books, Blood and Honey: A Balkan War Journal, Afghanistan: On The Road to Kabul and Haiti: January 12, 2010.

Haviv has been the central character in three films including National Geographic Explorer’s Freelance in a World of Risk that explores the hazards inherent in combat photography. He has also spoken about his work on, ABC World News, BBC, CNN, CNBC, NPR, NBC Nightly News, Good Morning America and the Charlie Rose Show.

Photo book exhibit at Cleveland Museum of Art

“…Curated by Barbara Tannenbaum, the former head curator at the Akron Art Museum who’s now curator of photography at the Cleveland Museum of Art, the exhibit is a groundbreaking event.

The first museum exhibit to examine the print-on-demand photo book phenomenon and explore its impact on contemporary photographic practice, the free exhibit features more than 150 books and 18 framed photographs.”

“…The museum also organized competitions at three local colleges — the Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland State University and the University of Akron — to encourage young talents to explore the medium.

The winners are Lisa Fovozzo Taras Cleveland Institute of Art, Peg McNally Cleveland State University, Ryan Upp Cleveland State University and Susie Lilley University of Akron.”

CSU Art Gallery Paid Internship

Carve a place for yourself in the brand new gallery! The application deadline is August 20th for a paid internship at the CSU Art Gallery. Beginning Fall 2012, the intern will work on a multifaceted project to help set up the gallery’s research library. The ideal candidate will be professionally minded and arrive with at least basic knowledge of museum studies and/or archival practices. S/he may specialize in art, art history, or other related disciplines. Familiarity or experience with Omeka CMS is preferred but not required.
